DogFit – Putting the Can into Canicross

Ten years ago, we had a vision: to help people get fitter with their dogs, while making the sport of Canicross more accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.

Back then, Canicross was still relatively unknown in the UK. We wanted to change that—not just by creating well-designed kit and training programmes, but by building a welcoming, supportive community where both people and dogs could thrive. Today, as we celebrate DogFit’s 10-year anniversary, we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved—and even more excited for what’s to come.

Empowering People & Dogs, No Matter Their Starting Point

Since launching DogFit in 2015, we’ve proudly introduced thousands of people and their dogs to Canicross—regardless of age, background or fitness level. Whether you’ve never run before, are getting back into exercise, or already love the trails, DogFit is for you.

From the outset, we made it our mission to ensure that our classes are fun, fully supported and goal-focused. You don’t need to be a seasoned athlete to start—just a willingness to try something new with your dog. And that’s why our Beginner to 5K programme has been such a huge success, giving people confidence, structure, and a real sense of achievement.

A Voice for Rescue Dogs, Nervous Dogs & Their Humans

One of the most rewarding parts of our journey has been the work we’ve done with rescue dogs, nervous or anxious pups, and owners who may lack confidence themselves. We’ve seen first-hand how Canicross can help calm, focus, and build trust between dog and human. It gives dogs a “job,” and owners a new sense of connection.

Over the years, we’ve also heard countless stories from members of our community who’ve used Canicross to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. Sometimes that run with your dog is more than exercise—it’s therapy, connection, and joy rolled into one. If DogFit has helped people feel stronger mentally and emotionally, that’s something we will always be proud of.

Our Incredible DogFit Trainer Network

A huge part of DogFit’s success is down to our amazing community of certified DogFit Trainers, who deliver high-quality, supportive sessions all across the UK, as well as overseas.

Each DogFit Trainer is professionally trained and shares our core values: inclusivity, empathy, and a passion for helping people and their dogs thrive. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to improve your technique, you’ll find expert guidance and a friendly face ready to welcome you.

Our Trainers not only deliver structured classes and programmes like our successful Beginner to 5K, but also offer 1:1 coaching, group runs, and tailored sessions for nervous runners or dogs needing extra support. They play a vital role in nurturing local Canicross communities, creating safe, fun environments where people and dogs of all abilities can grow in confidence.

We are constantly inspired by our Trainer network—their energy, their commitment, and the care they show for every runner and dog they meet. They truly embody what DogFit stands for.

The Right Kit, The Right Support

When we launched our DogFit Canicross Starter Kit, we wanted to make it as easy and safe as possible for beginners to get started. We made sure it was UK-designed and manufactured, road-tested by experts, and paired with accessible training and guidance. And always with a consideration to sustainability and how we source and supply our kit.

We also carefully curated gear from trusted brands in the industry, knowing that having the right equipment not only keeps you and your dog comfortable, but also helps build confidence from the get-go.

Educating and Championing the Sport

For us, DogFit has always been about more than kit. From day one, we’ve worked tirelessly to educate and be ambassadors for Canicross, making it our mission to raise awareness and grow the sport responsibly.

From delivering training courses and building a national network of certified DogFit Trainers, to launching our popular podcast ‘Talk Canicross’, publishing resources, and sponsoring running events across the UK we’ve championed Canicross every step of the way.

We’re also so proud of our DogFit Ambassadors and the real-life stories they share online, helping to inspire others to take that first step out the door with their dog by their side.

A Community That Moves Together

Beyond the training and the gear, what makes DogFit truly special is the community. Whether it’s a weekend class, a muddy mid-week trail run, or a Canicross event, we’ve seen amazing friendships form between dogs and people alike.

We’ve always believed that fitness is more fun together. And it’s been a joy to see our growing network of DogFit Trainers delivering sessions all over the UK from group meet-ups to 1:1 coaching, Beginner-to-5K programmes to confidence-building sessions for first-timers.

Looking Back With Gratitude

Looking back over the last 10 years, we’re incredibly grateful. Grateful for every Trainer, ambassador, customer, and community member who has helped make DogFit what it is today. For every dog that found a new purpose, and every person who found their confidence.

It’s been a privilege to help people discover the joy of Canicross, and to see how many lives it’s touched in unexpected and wonderful ways.

What’s Next for DogFit?

The journey isn’t over. In fact, we feel like we’re just getting started. We’re committed to growing our reach, expanding our Trainer network, developing even more inclusive programmes, and continuing to champion the sport of Canicross with integrity, fun and heart.
