This year marks DogFit’s 10th anniversary, and with it we’re celebrating one of the most heartfelt and inspiring parts of our journey – our My Story series. Over the past decade, we’ve had the privilege of sharing powerful, personal accounts from members of our community whose lives have been transformed by Canicross. Each story is unique, but all are united by a common thread: the bond between human and dog, and the strength found in getting fitter together.
To mark this milestone, each month we’ll revisit one of these incredible stories. We’ll reflect on the impact it had, what it represents to us as a Canicross community, and invite you to re-read the original article. Whether you’re new to DogFit or have been with us from the start, we hope these stories continue to inspire and remind you of the power of putting one foot – and paw – in front of the other.
Lisa’s Story – Canicross and a Mid-Life Health Crisis
Our first featured story comes from Lisa, who courageously shared her journey back in 2019. Facing a mid-life health crisis that left her overweight and struggling both physically and mentally, Lisa knew she had to make a change. Traditional gyms didn’t appeal to her, and finding motivation on her own was tough. That’s when she discovered DogFit and, after joining Canicross classes with a local DogFit Trainer, everything began to shift.

Teaming up with her energetic Labrador, Lisa found not just a new way to get active, but a completely new lease on life. Running with her dog gave her the consistency, companionship, and sheer joy she had been missing. Over time her physical health improved dramatically — she lost weight, lowered her blood pressure, and grew stronger. Just as importantly, her mental wellbeing soared too.

Lisa’s story is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to take control of your health, especially when you’ve got a four-legged friend by your side, or in her case, pulling up front! Her journey captures exactly what DogFit and Canicross are all about: connection, empowerment, health, fitness…and, of course, happiness!
